Discussion: Flexed / crouched inhumation, fully articulated. Very robust adult (probably male so Basak and Theya say), lying in a tightly crouched position with its spine curved along a rough E-W axis. Feet are tucked up tightly under overhang, soles facing east (as does face of skull). Skull is badly crushed, and some of long bones are also cracked due to compression, and also root penetration.
A pronounced void was encountered during excavation, located between the sternum and chin. A piece of shell was located between lower mandible and patellas.
A linear concave 'furrow' or depression ran obliquely across the surface of the right ribs, and this represented a linear fracture caused by downward pressure exerted on the right humerus from above.
When lifting the bones, the proximal ends of many disintegrated, as these were already crushed. However, the bone as a whole was in much better condition than skeleton 1955, unfortunately, hairline cracks in the pelvis caused it to collapse, and for this reason I decided to lift the bulk of the torso and vertebrae as a block.
A small patch of yellow ochre was discovered beneath the left ribs, this was sampled.

On previous pages I outlined what I thought were the sequences of events involved in this individual's burial. However, the human bone team discovered hand bones belonging to 1955 under skeleton 2169. This means that 1955 was probably the primary inhumation under the platform F13. It's grave (a 'ghost' cut of which only traces remained - see sheet 2176) is now numbered as 2536.
This inhumation was then removed by 2176, which should now be seen as a re-cut, and then 2169 was deposited in this cut and the grave filled in. Two long bones belong to 1955 (2506) were also included in this burial.
1955's partially disarticulated skeleton was then reburied on top of 2169, so that it appeared to be stratigraphically earlier. See sheet 1955 for a discussion of why this may have been desired.

Body: lying on its left side withits spine along a rough E-W orientation (though top was curved where haed was bent forward.
Head: bent steeply over so that the chin was probably touching the chest. Face was looking east
Right Arm: right humerus was extended to east, but radius and ulna were bent to north
Left Arm: left humerus extends to east as well, but left radius and ulna were bent to south so that left hand rests on right upper arm.
Right Leg: tightly flexed so that the kneecaps are just below the 'chin' of the lower mandible. They then run E-W. Feet are under overhang, toes pointing to north, soles to east
Left Leg: tightly flexed so that the kneecaps are just below the 'chin' of the lower mandible. They then run E-W. Feet are under overhang, toes pointing to north, soles to east
Other comments: right hand is upside down and Basak says it goes underneath the bottocks. It did!
