Discussion: (4477) is archaeological infill, exposed below Mellart backfill. It partly obscures E-W wall F482. Originally we thought it overlay N-S wall F507 but this wall lies immediately to the E. of what seems to be the E. limit of (4477). However, where N-S wall F447 ( above F507) has been excavated, you can see in section a layer of infill between these two walls. I suspect this material is the same as (4477), so our original assumption may be right. This may show up in the S. facing section of wall F448 ( to east of wall F447 ) this would be significant, because it would show a gap between construction of N-S walls F447 and F507. (4477) is not fully excavated. The level it has been taken down to, will serve as our first step-in, as we excavate to deeper levels.
(4477) is a very mixed deposit, comprising of orangey and grayish brown clayey silts, and substantial lensing of broken-up building material - mostly plaster and mortar, but with some brick remnants.
