Unit 6131

Category: layer    dug in 1999

Area: Bach

Data Category Information: none

Dimensions: 130 x 40 cm

Discussion: The section of the unit 6131has been made on the N-S axis in order to see what is happening below the clay parts and bricks. So far, compact clay parts occured 2 cm below going down to the level of the 3587 unit. The idea is to go deeper in the unit 3587 level leaving the clay parts, if compact.
The soil in 6131 is very dry, probably due to burning but this is not for certain. The letest argument about the clay parts is that they are not burned but very dried out. Analysis of this clay could show if thay were burned or not.

Unit description: This is a smallish unit, distinguished by a big pile of crumbles that was once a segment of cattle horn core (X1). Otherwise it is mostly sheep-size with a little large mammal. Aside from the horn core, diagnostics are all sheep/goat. Fragmentation is moderate, with some relatively large pieces. The surface condition is a little worn, with some burning and a little digestion. The impression from the condition is of fill, but the pieces are larger than usual; perhaps dirty fill, can't be too reworked. Sample 2 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. This is a moderate size sample, containing a pile of horn core fragments no doubt from X1. The rest of it looks pretty much like the rest of the dry sieved material, with the addition of the little crumbles, of course. A couple of fragments of bird long bone shaft. No fish or microfauna. Last number = 99
