Discussion: Photo numbers: 2001 T 405.18 - 21 I have started removing what we think to be later phase in the pillar construction. It consists mostly of large red bricks fragments and greyish mortar placed in a semi-prganized manner (the higher it gor, the "rubbier" it was). It's important to notice that along the N part of the internal wall in the floor of space 158 as well as those along the W wall of building 3 . This pillar was connected to the internal wall with unit 8102. There are lumps of red painted plaster in this grey mortar indicating it was made in a hurry. Continued work in unit 8101 (under the feature 156) revealed two more red clay bricks towards southern end of feature 759. This helped in understanding the construction sequence of features 156, 759 and associated plstering. Darker, moister red brick was revealed towords northwest end of the unit under plaster on top of which feature 156 rested. These red clay bricks may be a part of an earlier construction phase and may be associated with the red clay bricks within the northern part of space 158 (along eastern wall of this area). The lighter red clay brick may not have been a part of an earlier construction phase, but rather it could have been used as a fill for the foundation of feature 156. The southern area of this unit was filled with two red clay bricks. The northern end was filled with mixed clay and dirt. In the north end of the unit wall plastering is apparent. This plaster was part of the base of feature 156 and lapped the brick and fill. |
