Unit 1102

Category: layer    dug in 1995

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: room fill

Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous

Dimensions: 1x1m

Discussion: Mixed fill excavated in 1x1m square. Upper part of this deposit is heavily disturbed by modern root action. Lower part is less so but still affected by roots. As we take out 1102 we trace plastered wall faces in NW corner of space 70. Plaster is in very poor state of preservation, v. flaky and eroded. Wall plaster stops at depth of only c.10-15cm from top of wall, but there is no sign of a plastered floor. Perhaps the floor was not plastered here, or perhaps there is a plastered floor further down. In any case we decide to clean of at this depth and move to the SE to excavate the next 1x1m square (1103-). 13/9/95 Now seems that bench/platform in N end of space 70 has been ripped out taking plaster with it. Possibly a FI originally existed in NE corner of room where walls and fill are burnt.
