|Entry: || During the last couple of days we have been cocentrating on the open space 60. This included removing a thin skim of midden type material (12945) and then a massive layer (12946) of building debris type material. One of the theories for this material is that it represents a surface for a street. I think that it is more likely to be demolition rubble from the surrounding building. To help answer this problem we have fully sieved the massive deposit (with the considerable help of Holucie-not sure if this is spelled right) and asked the specialits to look at abrasion and wear in the material which may suggest if it was been exposed and kicked about a lot. I think the material probably built up over some time as the walls gradually crumpled since a substantial amount of bone and stuff was in the deposit (although the spaces appear to have been deliberatly backfilled). A number of figurines were found in the layer including a ram type one which should please the Koc bank sponsers. |
Architectural samples were taken from the layer and the wall of Space 276 to try and see if Burcu and Serena can tell us if the mudbrick in the layer matches the stuff in the walls. Weve not heard back yet!
Another layer of midden was below 12946 to the eastern side of the space, we have only jusgt started to excavate it, but if it is sealed by the demolition rubble layer from space 276 it looks as if the material in it could be dated to the occupation of the space. Richard thinks that space 90, whiuch is open, may have functioned as a garden (12929) since the material is thick homogenous fill unlike the usual catal deposits. The midden (12961) in just to the west of the wall that seperates this from space 60 so it may be that the neighbours of the occupants of Space 276 were chucking their rubbish over the garden fence!!!Entered By: LY
