| Comments: speleothem (secondary calcite growth from a cave or fractured limestone environment) carved into a standing female figure with divided legs (indicated by an incised line), large buttocks, slightly protruding stomach and arms held up to breasts; there is yellow-orange staining on the upper back which is iron impurities from ground water, buttocks, down the back/side of L leg, around neck, face and top of head -- which is natural organic staining; incised lines indicate breast divide, pubic triangle/stomach, and leg divide on front, arms, leg divide, and horizontal detail across upper legs on back; the head and face have been worked/modified, but no facial details were executed or were removed(??); there is a suggestion of hair/cap on head and natural voids are present on the bottom of the legs and between the chest and arms (larger on the L side) and a deep groove on the top of the head; when viewed from the top, the piece is suggestive of a phallus. |
