Together with unit 12892 the bricks constitute the fundamental constructive creation of F2533, the northern wall of B.80. The top 1.2m of were excavated- unit 18916-18917, a plaster layer, was removed. Although the bricks varied in both size and form, they were put in regular courses which supports the idea that they belong to one building phase. Above and approximately 20cm under U18985, a niche, the distinctions between the brick and mortar became much more diffuse and difficult to ascertain. These courses were more silty and compact and were composed of almost the same material as the surrounding mortar. The reason might be that the niche, which hollows out part of the wall doesn’t allow any space for bricks.
Some of the bricks and courses of bricks were covered by a thin layer of decomposed grass. It is uncertain if this was an intentional part of the construction process or whether the grass became attached during the construciton of the bricks as they set.
Changes in measurements upon excavtion by LS/GE:
highest point: top of wall appeared to be truncated and we excavted 1.2m of it from that point. Its highest elevation is now just about 1010,30

Total soil excavated-the online database would not allow us to put it in, but together we excavted a total of 720L. Since we excavted brick and mortar together, we halved that measurement and put 360L on each of the brick and mortar unit sheets (U12891 and 12892) |
