Global Heritage Fund 2006 - 2007

Funding from the Global Heritage Fund in 2006 allowed improvements to be made in conservation and site presentation.

2007 Projects

Conservation of possible bear relief from the corner of a room in the 4040 Area.

Conservation of an incised decoration on a wall in the TP Area. Since time restrictions did not allow the lifting to take place this season, a mould was taken of the spiral motif prior to treatment and burial until next season.

Conservation of Building 5 in preparation of new shelter construction to display the 4040 excavation Area.

Preparation of trenches and pouring of cement to construct the foundation for the new shelter over the northern 4040 Area. The new shelter will allow this area to be open for display year round.

2006 Projects

To protect buildings and wall plasters as they were being exposed,
a tent shelter was constructed over the northen area of excavation.

As the the West Mound excavation was reopened this season,
a fence was built around the mound to protect it from disturbances.

Continuing from the previous year, local women trained by conservators helped remove wall plaster to reaveal wall paintings and also sorted heavy residue.

One wall painting was conserved and removed for future display in the local Konya Museum.

Another wall painting in the 4040 Area was exposed and conserved for display.
