Figure 18: Reconstruction of obsidian knapping in Building 23 (JGHS)

Chipped Stone

from archive report

This year we discovered a number of obsidian hoards containing large roughly shaped rough outs in several buildings including two which seem to have been placed as foundation deposits under Building 2. We also found evidence for the knapping of small obsidian blades within Building 23 where there is evidence for obsidian being placed in hoards cut into the floors, retrieved and worked on several separate occasions. The early deposits in the deep sounding produced large numbers of sickle blades, trapeze shaped microliths and other material which is comparable with earlier sites such as Asıklı Höyük.
