John-Gordon Swogger

As with previous seasons, 2000 saw the production of another set of reconstruction illustrations, working to incorporate new data and new interpretations. Some of these illustrations focused on current excavations in the BACH1 Area and the West Mound, while the remainder revisited areas and buildings from previous seasons (such as Figure 20 or Figure 21). In addition to illustrations in traditional media such as pen and ink, pencil or paint, new reconstructions are now also being produced in digital format. New computer-generated images of buildings and rooms (Figure 10, Figure 21) and 3-D ‘virtual-reality’ environments are expanding the way in which reconstructions convey archaeological information to their audiences. Many of these reconstructions are collected on the Çatalhöyük Online Image Archive.
