Visit Çatalhöyük

Map of Turkey Map of Turkey showing site location

Çatalhöyük is situated 60km South-East of Konya. The mound is accessible to visitors all year round, but you might find it more rewarding to come during the excavation season, which this year started in June 2002 and will continue throughout the summer until the end of July.

There is a Visitor Centre at the site which contains replicas on finds, but the main finds from Catalhoyuk are ehibited in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations located in Ankara, and in Konya Archaeological Museum.

From Konya, Take Road 715 to Karaman. 60km out of Konya, turn left to Çumra at a major crossroads with roundabout. Çatalhöyük is already signposted here. Drive through Içeriçumra to Çumra, c.12 km from the main road. Keep on that road. Finally in the centre of Çumra turn left in front of a modern mosque, then right 500m later, then immediately left again to cross the railway track. Çatalhöyük is signposted with several new signs in Çumra. After crossing the railway, the road to Çatalhöyük (another 20km) is signposted again. Keep on that road. After crossing the river, follow the road, keeping the river (and the big irrigation canal) on your left and you will eventually see the mound with the shelter on the right. Turn right into the access road (another battered roadsign) and park by the custodian's house.

The site is open to visitors all year round and we have custodians who guide visitors around the site.

Please note that the map included here should not be used without a proper map of the region, and does not include any minor or major roads that are not relevant to the journey.

Hope to see you there!
